Printmaking Summer Mornings 25-29 June(34)

The week of 25 - 29 of June you can come and printmake at Cascada Studio, use the facilities and receive tuition for your new projects from Mariann Johansen-Ellis, Cascada Studios resident artist.

The studio is open for all printmaking techniques, with special emphasis on etching - aquatint and linocutting.

Students from abroad, can set up a personalized programe with Mariann, which in a weeks stay, could for example take in, a basic etching course with soft g

round added, and the same plate taken on to be aquatinted. Or a basic linocut, with amore advanced linocut reduction to follow.

We work in the cooler mornings, and enjoy the freedom of the afternoon to either carry on working in the studio, or enjoy exploring Mijas and the surroundings, a visit to Granada and the Alhambra maybe, or lazy hours on the beach! All within easy reach, even by public transport.

Program cost (395 Euros) is for 5 days of tuition (about 25 hours in total), access to studio facilities, some basic materials (please ask, as materials depend on choice of technique) and one group welcome dinner in the village of Mijas.

Air tickets, accommodation, ground travel, excursions and food, is not included in the tuition price, Cascada Studio is more than happy to help you with finding good accommodation to suit all budgets.You can browse the different possibilities under "Location". Most accommodation is located within walking distance of Cascada Studio and Mijas village has everything you need, making access to a car unnecessary, unless you wish so. Good public transport and many day excursions are easy to book and find.

Some words from the artist:"I simply adore printmaking, it fulfills all my creative needs, and never ceases to amaze and surprise me with the many ways in which you can interpret the image you see in the sketch book of your mind, or through the lens of your camera. Printmaking is fluid, it is not a static medium, it is always in progress, moving forward and exploring new terrain, and that makes it my chosen medium, the ways in which printmaking breaks new ground, adopts new techniques, including digital printing into a very traditional way of creating images, is quite frankly, so exciting! Sure, I explore other ways of being creative, but my heart, is with the copper plate, the pristine piece of lino, the thrill of pulling the first proof of a new plate through the etching press! It is this magic, and this deep love of printmaking, that I try to share with the people coming to my courses, maybe the fact that I am also mainy self taught, makes it somewhat easier for me to understand how finding your own creative voice works, I think my work is constantly evolving, I always try to be "new" and to find fresh angles on what I love to depict, and I hope that I can help you do the same, when you come for a course. I have also over the years as a printmaker helped many artists evolve their art into printmaking in a way that made it possible for them to work full time as artists, as printmaking does in a very real way open the door to that possibility."
